For Future Memory

The fashion design processes of the Designing the Future Land project are dynamic, take advantage of synergies between institutions, local community actors and designers and meet new technologies, design for sustainability in its broadest sense and the dissemination of local heritage through design.

Participatory Design - 9th Grade Students

Collaboration with Professor Nádia Torres and her Visual Education students to create motifs inspired by Mértola's heritage, to be applied to dresses.

Design of a Talego inspired Handbag

Design process for a handbag inspired by the Alentejo’s talegos (traditional fabric bags with string, to store the bread) and the cheesecloth fabrics with patterns from the Mértola Weaving Workshop (Oficina Tecelagem de Mértola).

Photo Shoot for Moodboard

A walk with the seamstresses of Alcaria Ruiva and Algodor (villages in the municipality of Mértola) to share local stories and collect images for a moodboard.

Co-Design of Islamic-Inspired Scarves

Adaptation of printed motifs, from a selection of works on display at the Museum of Islamic Art at the Mértola Museum, with the collaboration of the design students Ana Rita Baptista, Camila Freitas, Cátia Calhau, Leonor Carradas, Luísa Salvado, Francisca Ribeiro and Pedro Leitão.​

Design from discarded denim, following exploratory creative processes developed with the local community.

Designed Surfaces Exhibition:

Islamic Ceramics and Textile Design

Urban/rural knowledge transfer done with an exhibition of work from the Fashion Materials II course by the Fashion Design degree students from the Faculty of Architecture in Lisbon (Universidade de Lisboa).

Design and 3D Printing
Processo de design, desde a inspiração no património local até ao resultado final, recorrendo a software para criação em 3D.Design process, from the inspiration in local heritage to the result in 3D printing.​

Natural Dyeing Workshop

Participation in the Arts and Crafts Biennial – New Design (Alentejo) with a natural dyeing workshop that used dyes obtained from food waste and autochthonous plants.

Short Course in Sewing

A course given to the local community on basic sewing techniques, at the former Primary School of Alcaria Ruiva.

Vacation Camp - Block Printing

A workshop for youngsters, for the creation of printed t-shirts, by using blocks that they produced.​

Fashion Photo Shoot

Making-off of the fashion photography session for Safra, in the historic center of Mértola, with local models and local photographer.​
